Dear Anna,
Thank you so much for your courage in writing this letter and sharing your experience with all of us. I can't imagine what it must feel like to be in your shoes, and I certainly wouldn't wish that on anyone.
In the midst of all the darkness that you and your family have endured, I want to applaud you (and your children!) for your extraordinary bravery and resilience. Please know that you are not alone. We are all witnessing what is happening in Ukraine, and we are sending as much support and care as we can. I truly hope you can feel that.
With heartfelt wishes,
Claudia
Thank you for taking the time to write such a beautiful letter.
Your words are so moving. Please know that many Australians are thinking of you and supporting you as best we can. I sincerely hope this war will end soon and your family can return home in peace.
If you're able to write again, please let us know more about your family in Ukraine. How often are you able to speak with them? What challenges do they face, remaining at home?
Warmest wishes,
Lisa.
Dear Anna,
Thank you for taking the time to write and share your experience with us. I’m truly sorry that you and your fellow Ukrainians have had to endure this terrible war. You and your family show such strength and resilience during such a difficult time.
I hope your letter can inspire more kindness in the world, because I truly believe that if we chose kindness over hate and greed, we would all live in a more peaceful place.
Keegan
Hi Anna,
Thank you for sharing your story with us. My heart breaks for you and your countrymen. I cannot fathom the years you've been through and the enormous strength you showed that day you decided to leave with your family, and every day since. My heart goes out to you.
If you choose to share more, I would love to hear more about how it has been moving to a new country and building a life while having to keep reading the news of back home. How are your kids adapting? Are you planning to stay in your new home forever, or do you want to return? It must be so hard to think about the future when you hope every day the war will end tomorrow and life is so uncertain.
You are a wonderful, strong woman and mother, and I'm so glad for your kids that they have you to protect them.
All the best,
Mirjam
Hello Anna,
I was very moved by your story but was pleased to read that you and your family are successfully making a new life in your new surroundings. I wish you all the very best and hope that one day you can return to a free and peaceful Ukraine.
Neil
Hello Anna,
I was happy to hear you and your children are safe, and that they have such a wonderful mother looking out for them.
My prayers are with your eldest son for his future and his safety.
Sincerely,
Harry (love from Australia 🇦🇺)
Warm greetings Anna from Perth in Western Australia.
I know a lot about leaving one's homeland for a new country where little is familiar initially - although certainly not because of unwanted displacement by war.
You have built stability for your children and that is priceless. You should be very very proud.
Very best wishes,
Judy.
Hi Anna, thank you for your letter.
I am inspired by your courage and resilience, and by the hope that keeps you going. I am also inspired by the work you do to support others in spite of your own challenges.
Moving is never easy, l pray that you continue to thrive where you are, and l pray that your children achieve success, and hopefully Ukraine will find peace.
Sindi
Hi Anna,
I struggle to understand the individuals and powers that set out to destroy so much. What can be in their hearts and how can they make the choice to deviate from humanity? I’ve watched the destruction in Ukraine, Gaza and Lebanon and grieved for the loss of life and culture.
Your story gives me hope, not only because you’ve shown such courage but because it lets me try to imagine a time when your country will be free.
I send your family much love and admiration and pray that you and your family will find peace.
Rose
Dear Anna,
Thank you for sharing these precious glimpses of your life, for gifting us this insight. It can be difficult to imagine the panic of suddenly having to leave your home, your loved ones, and everything you know, and begin again with only what you could carry.
The constant trauma and exhaustion of living with war, and the resilience it takes to build and hold your life together each and every day, is something you carry with you no matter where you go. The world desperately needs to understand that. So please keep sharing your story when you can.
On days when you feel invisible and forgotten, I hope you will remember these messages and know that despite the darkness there is still compassion and understanding. You are seen.
There are strangers across the globe who care about you and your family simply because we can. Together we will keep doing what we can to help make the world a better place.
Linda
Hello Anna,
Thank you for your story of moving from Odessa to Moldova. You are certainly a brave lady and so caring for your lovely family.
I wish you the best in your future life.
Geoff
My father was Polish. He survived five years of forced labour in World War 2 occupied Poland to emerge strong, free and contented.
My heartfelt support is with you on your journey to a happy future.
Jan
Hi Anna,
I just want you to know you have presented your children with an amazing model of what a good human being is. This is your gift to them. Even with everything you have gone through, you are helping others in need.
You are a survivor, like many Ukrainians. Strong, caring. We in Australia, are with you!
Jacinta
Dear Anna,
Congratulations on your courage and determination to create a good childhood for your children. It’s a joy to see the younger ones well settled and happy. I pray that you are able to keep in touch with their grandparents and that you will be reunited. God bless you all.
Jan
Dear Anna,
You and your family are so very courageous. The love you have for your children is heartfelt by me and anyone who reads your letter.
My family is with you in spirit. Our love and prayers to you.
Jennifer
Dear Anna,
Your children are beautiful, i have 2 daughters.
I am glad to hear you have found safety, your bravery is motivating and inspirational.
Kristy
Dear Anna, thank-you for sharing something of the horror and uncertainty which you and your family have experienced, and of the courage you showed in moving to Moldova for a new life.
TV coverage of the destruction of cities and its impact of the people of Ukraine is very, very sad. You have made this horror more personal. It is clear that you are still living with a lot of hurt and uncertainty, yet you are somehow able to look to the future.
Blessing in all of that.
Lorene
Dear Anna,
Thank you for your letter. I will pray for you and your family as you do the best you can in your new home.
Sincerely,
Jocelyn
Dear Anna, I want you to know that even though the Ukrainian people may feel alone and as if no one is thinking of them or cares, nothing could be further from the truth. Literally all my friends are horrified by the Russian attack and feel so much for Ukraine. We often pray for the war to be over.
I admire your resilience and am relieved to hear of a family which has found stability again at last.
I will continue to think of you and your family from across the globe and I wish you patience, safety, happiness, love and progress.
Diane
Dear Anna,
I've read your story, it was heart tugging. From it, I gathered that you're a strong and resilient woman. Your home has been taken away from you, not withstanding this adversity you show the courage to provide a wonderful life for your children and yourself by finding the joy in the small moments- thats truly inspirational.
I hope that joy is always able to find you and that you may soon return home, to Ukraine.
Warmest regards,
Emmalea
Dear Anna,
Good on you for bravely supporting and guarding and cherishing your beautiful children.
Family, now and in Eternity, are so important. So is the struggle for freedom and democracy and Ukraine's name and people are so respected in the wider world.
I have three children and four grandchildren and they are the most important loved legacy,
As a result of your beautiful letter and splendid courage I will lobby our Australian Government for more help to splendid Ukraine,
God bless you,
Sally
Dear Anna,
Thank you for sharing your story. Your courage and resilience are inspiring.
Please know that we are with you and with the Ukrainian people.

Привіт з Австралії!
Thank you for sharing your story. I'm not Ukrainian myself, but I'm a bandurist from Sydney. The bandura has been my favorite instrument for a while, and ever since I was given the opportunity to learn to play it I've only been more motivated to learn about the Ukrainian language and culture.
If you are able to write back, would you be willing to tell us if you have a favorite Ukrainian song? If you do, perhaps I could learn to play it.
Бережіть себе! Слава україни!

Dear Anna,
I was very angry when I heard of the invasion of Ukraine. I can well understand the trauma of having to leave your life, your home and everything so quickly.
You have shown great courage but you have saved your children and have a new life now. I hope you can return home one day to a safe country.
I wish you a good life and the strength to accept what you cannot change for the present.
Etiennette
Thank you for sharing your story. You are very brave and should be very proud of what you are accomplishing. You and your children both. Please stay strong. You can get through anything. I hope one day your beautiful country is at peace.
Anmol
Dear Anna,
I feel so sad when I see and hear what is happening to your beautiful Ukraine. I cannot imagine the anguish of seeing day after day, the destruction of so many homes and great public buildings, hospitals, schools. What sort of minds think that that is ok, the way to behave.
I hope one day you can return to your own country, if that is what you want most.
Big hugs to you and all your children.
Hoping for much better days ahead,
Judy xxxxx
Hi Anna I’m so sorry that this hardship has happened to you and your family i send you all my love ❤️
Joe
Hi Anna,
Your story touched me deeply. You have the strength of a rock. Stay strong for you and your family as the whole world is behind you and your beautiful country Ukraine.
Cheers Robert
Dear Anna,
I’m glad to hear about you. Everyone has a story of their own to tell, and mine would be my community going through something similar in 2014. When ISIS attacked us. I was 9 at the time, and I still remember all of it. I am happy to hear that your daughter does not remember anything, because those memories can be very painful.
We now live in Australia. There is always something new to learn here. It is very hard to learn a new language and adapt to a different culture.
I’m very glad that you and your family are safe and sound. It is very courageous of you to create a website to help people in need. Not everyone has the ambition and ability to do something like that.
I wish you and your family happiness, peace, and a better future ahead.
Take care.
Dima
Hi Anna, I am so sorry to hear what’s happened to you and your family. This sounds like a nightmare! You sound brave and strong, and I respect you for persevering in such difficult circumstances. I really hope you can find peace and happiness where you are and return home soon. Wishing you all the best.
Toby
Hi Anna,
Thank you for sharing your story—it really touched me. Your strength and courage as a mother are truly inspiring.
I was a refugee once too and lived in a refugee camp for 19 years. Once, my family also had to leave everything to avoid persecution, so I understand how hard it is to rebuild life. I feel very lucky to now live in Australia with my family.
I truly hope one day you can return home or find a happy, safe place for you and your children.
Prabhu
Keep on keeping on, Anna. It must be so hard and tough for you and the children. You’ve been through a traumatic time and I hope you can put it in the past now and live peacefully. That is my wish for you.
Danielle
Dear Anna,
Thank you for sharing what you have gone through. I am really glad that you timely took courage to walk away from your comfort zone to secure yourself and your Children’s life from danger. As a mother of one I can assume that your journey until now is not easy but you hold a strength to keep your children safe and choose to pass through difficult path.
You are not alone, there are so many people around the world who had their lives divided into before and after, your story gives people who had faced war these days hope for future.
What impress me most about you is you were able to give your children home, safety, a good environment to enrich their educational journey and choose a different career to support people despite of all you have been through. I understand that trauma and pain are not erasable but your determination for supporting people who is experiencing difficulties in their life definitely gives you way to cope.
After reading your story, do you want to know what i did? I searched for meaning of your name and came to know that you are Grace. You truly carry the meaning of your name. You shown grace in the way by protecting your children, adopting a new life and continue to step forward with hope.
Your one courageous decision help your children grow, find joy and set career and educational goals in their life even in not favourable circumstances. I am really glad that a mother made it on her own.
I am pretty sure that you will continuously find moments of peace and happiness in your new home and keep holding hope for future. Thank you for sharing your journey to me.
Kind regards
Sandhya
Anna, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your lovely family. Take care,
Paula

To Dear Anna,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and story of survival in very difficult circumstances in Ukraine.
I am so glad that you have your children to hold onto. You show immense strength and courage and determination, and this is very encouraging.
I do hope you know how much we want this war to end, it’s very challenging times indeed, and my thoughts and prayers are for you all to thrive and survive each situation ahead, and I hope that someday very soon .. peace will prevail.
Thanks again for sharing your story with me,

Dear Anna,
As a small boy, my husband was a refugee from Ukraine at the end of World War 2. His parents prospered in Australia but they always missed the life they had lost.
I understand something of your struggles and your courage and I wish you well and hope for peace in Ukraine.
Carole
Hello Anna,
Most of us hear the daily news with all the political problems & wars around the globe. The personal tragedies like yours, however, makes us understand these personal miseries more.
I grew up in post war West Germany and can relate (a little only) to your experience as refugee as my grandparents at this stage were refugees. I mention it only that I can relate to your situation.
I wish you all the Best in your circumstances and that the war in Ukraine is coming to an end soon.
Reinhold
Dear Anna,
Many thanks for your letter. Despite all the difficult times you and your family are experiencing it is so good that you are all together in your own home and able to adjust to a different life.
Thinking of you and sending my very best wishes to you and your children x
Ann
I am so proud of you Anna. You have experienced so much and kept going. Be proud of yourself and your family. And now you are helping others. I am 83 now and have had some difficulties in life but cannot imagine what you have gone through.
I hope this dreadful war can be resolved soon. I will be thinking of you and your family and hope for a free Ukraine before too long. XX
Andrena
You Ukrainians are always on the front of our minds Anna.
Love to all Ukrainians from Australia
Isobel
Dear Anna, my heart goes out to you. May our loving God be with you and support you as you struggle to make life 'normal' again through these unthinkably hard times.
Love, Helen.
Hi Anna, you have a beautiful family. Bravery is one of your traits you have obviously passed onto your children.
We think of Ukraine & her people & can’t imagine the horrors you go & have gone through the last few years. I’m thrilled that you wrote to me, and hope to hear from you in the future. Bless you and your family.
Robyn

I can tell you are a kind, loving, determined and very brave woman.

Hi Anna,
I'm Hugh, a Korean Australian living in Australia. As I read through your story, I was reminded of my grandmother and mother who survived the Korean war in 1950s. You are an amazing person and mother who have tried everything to provide a safe home to your children.
Anna, please know you are never alone because of many people who'd keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers. Will always remember you and your children in my prayers.
Regards,
Hugh
Dear Anna,
It is heartbreaking to hear of your suffering. We hope and pray that the war will soon end and that the Ukrainian people will once again be able to live in peace.
Ian
Dear Anna, it was heart-warming and poignant reading your letter. I can only imagine being in your position, leaving a life behind and starting a new one in a new country.
You are brave and strong and doing an amazing job caring for your 4 beautiful children. I will keep you and your children in my prayers.
Life in Australia is quite different. We are geographically isolated from the conflicts and wars currently in our world. I am blessed with 3 adult sons, my eldest Christopher is married to Rebecca and I have one granddaughter Indiana. My other two sons are Sidney and Timothy. I love spending time with Indiana who is 16 years and help out with picking her up from school and taking her to sporting commitments.
I hope that life in your new home is good for you and your children and I look forward to hearing news from you again.
Blessings
Susan
Good evening Anna,
Thank you so much for sharing your story. I was so moved reading it particularly as it was the same day I was listening to Radio National where the presenter was talking to a psychologist from Ukraine. These wars are so destructive to us humans.
Thank you again Anna, you are not alone, many of us care about what is happening in your country.
Best wishes to you and family.
Salome
Hi Anna,
I read your letter and can see that the sudden wrench of the war has had a profound practical and emotional impact for you and your children. You did the right thing, moving to Moldova to keep your children safe. I am glad you are all safer now and I hope you all continue to grow and prosper even though this being cut off from your roots must be extremely difficult.
I too hope alongside you that the war ends soon.
Your people are courageous. I am hopeful you can return back one day very soon, rejoin your countrymen and women in a safer Ukraine.
Helen
Hello Anna,
I read your letter and was amazed by your journey in this appalling situation.
You and your family are strong, clever and brave and I am glad that you have a stable, safe refuge even if it isn't home.
I hope the senseless war ends soon and you can return and start to mend and reconnect to you family, friends and community. I will keep on supporting you through UNHCR.
Whatever your future, hold onto your hope and love.
Pam and family.
Dear Anna
My name is Marcus. I hope and pray that you and your family are doing well in your new home. I hope that the war will end soon so that you and your family will feel safe again.

Marcus
Thanks for sharing your life with us Anna. Your children are beautiful but I am so sad that all your lives have been disrupted so much. There are many people around the world who are standing with Ukraine.
Never give up hope!
Diane
Hi Anna,
I am so proud of you for making the difficult decision to leave your beloved country and take your family to safety. I know how hard it is to leave your home (but thankfully not from war!) and it sounds like you've made a great new start in Odessa and have helped them adapt well.
Bless your new life and we pray you can return home one day.
Clare
Hi Anna,
It was inspiring reading your story, the resilience you displayed and the dedication you have to your family is something that I and many others can learn from.
I wish you and your family safety and prosperity and pray that the war will be over soon.
Best regards
Jeremy
Hello Anna
Hoping this letter finds you and your family keeping well and safe in your new home.
I cannot begin to imagine the fear of living in a war zone, particularly with a young family to protect. Your letter is certainly an inspiration, as it is full of hope for the present and the future. I enjoyed reading about your life and your children growing up , their routines and achievements.
As a mother our primary focus is our children, we strive to protect and nurture but also sadly realise we can't always control the external environment.
Thank you for sharing your story. Hope to hear more from you soon,
Take care and best wishes,
Kylee
Dear Anna,
Thank you for sharing your story. I’m deeply grateful for your openness and courage in speaking about such a painful and difficult experience.

Please know that your voice matters, and that your story is heard and held with solidarity and compassion.
Kindly,
Emilia

It was beautiful to read your story. Your courage and resourcefulness are inspiring.
I wish you peace and happiness in the future.
Rosalynde
Hi Anna,
Hi Anna, I can't imagine how difficult life must have been and continues to be for you. I am a father and grandfather and like you the happiness of family is paramount.
Good luck with your future and be aware people in Australia are horrified that in the 21st Century a peaceful nation could suffer your fate.
Glynn
Hi Anna, I have read just briefly on what trouble you have been through.
I am amazed at the strength of Ukraine people, really.
I visited Ukraine many times some years ago. I have a friend in Brovary, his name is Koc. Also Sveta and Alex, they live there too.
I am happy to keep supporting your family and to help you! I will do as much as I can possible to give hope and food especially! You have such a beautiful family indeed.
Thank you for your letter. Stay safe I do absolutely hope this ridiculous war ends soon. All my best wishes to you and your family always....
Bruce
Thank you for sharing your struggles, courage and motivation to have a new life in a new place with your children at your heart.
I too am a mother of adult children and grandchildren and I cannot imagine what our world would look like if what happened in Ukraine happened in Australia.
As you say, hope is everything.
Thank you,
Petre
You amaze me, Anna, in dealing with such disruption.
Obviously you are spurred on by the love of your children. Remember to look after yourself; don’t run yourself into the ground.
May your god bless you and all of your family thrive.
Best wishes,
Chris and Kerri

You are doing an amazing job of caring for your children and through this you are showing how love is stronger force than hate or evil.
Stay strong and take care of yourself.

Hi Anna,
My name is Peter and I am from Perth in Western Australia. Your story is truly inspirational and my wife and I pray for your nation every day. We pray for an end to the war, for your beautiful country to be restored and rebuilt and for the citizens of Ukraine to be able to live in peace once more.

Hello Anna
I have just read your message and I am full of admiration for all that you have done to bring your family to safety. You are a truly remarkable person.
I hope that life for you and your family will continue to improve and that soon you will be able to return to your homeland.
Brian
Dear Anna,
I am an Australian man that I pray God that this terrible invasion to Ukraine finishes as soon as possible. I have read your letter about how difficult is to get you and children to a safe place and provide to them all the basics along the way. You are a brave woman that deserve the best outcome.
I have fond memories of Ukraine when I went to Kieve and Kharkiv before the war (still I have 3 Vychivankas that I wear occasionally). Ukrainian people are fantastic humans, and I pray for them to get to a peace time soon.
The little thing I am doing is to help Ukrainians with donations and participating in some charity events.
Anna, rest assured that you are supported by millions of people from around the world.
Do not give up and keep your good work writing letters and actively informing the world how your people are coping with this war.
God bless you. Arnold
Dear Anna,
It was lovely to read about you and your family and life in Ukraine. It must be very difficult for you to keep leading a normal life, amidst the war.
I live in Australia and please remember we are keeping you in our thoughts.
Sending very best wishes,
Megan
Hi Anna, you and your family have achieved so much in four years! I admire your strength and determination. I also hope that the war ends soon. When it does end, whether you decide to stay in Moldova or return to Odesa, I wish you and your family a successful life.
Anne
Hello Anna,
Greetings to you and your family of 4.
I can't imagine what it's like to go through what you have gone through. I'm 84 and lost my wife to ill health 10 years - I miss her of course - but I'm fortunate my country isn't at war.
My religion teaches me that hope is one of the great virtues.
My wish is that you can hold onto hope Anna that the war will quickly end.
Kind Regards
Bill

Dear Anna,
Thank you for sharing your heartfelt story. My heart goes out to you and your family. Living in Australia I can only imagine the fear, angst and heartache you have for you, your family and all Ukrainians.
Know that there are people who care deeply for what you are going through and wish it was different. We admire you so much. You are not alone. You are brave and resilient and we want to amplify this for you.

Dear Anna
You are a strong woman. Your experiences and how you have adapted to your new circumstances will be an inspiration to those you wish to help.
I feel both sad and inspired reading your story.
I wish you love and peace.
Anne
Pleased to hear from you. I can’t imagine going through a war like that. Australia is so peaceful and isolated. It has its problems but nothing too serious. Glad to hear that your children all made it out 👍
I’ll try to keep in contact
Kind regards
Clare
Hi Anna,
I read your letter with great interest as I can imagine what would be going through my own mind if I had to endure through a similar environment as you unfortunately had to.
Happy to learn that your kids are in a safer environment now, that the little ones can find some respite and that your older son can already think about his vocation.
I have a 4 year daughter and a 12 year old son so I can relate.
I wish you all the best, keep safe and hope your family remain happy and joyful
Sincerely
Quetzal
Dear Anna,
Your letter touched me deeply. I wish you and your family the very best.
Sladana
Dear Anna,
I think of you and all of the people of the Ukraine and my heart pains for your suffering. So unfair, unjust and incredibly cruel.
My love and thoughts are for you and with you.
Mandy
Dear Anna, living in a relatively safe country like Australia, I can only imagine what it must be like to have to free my loved country and start a new life with your Family. I wish you well in your life and I hope the war ends soon.
Christine
I really admire your strength in a time so devastating.
To hear what you’ve gone through I can’t imagine the sacrifices you had to make to get to where you are mentally, emotionally and physically.
I truly do hope that in the future you and your family will be able to find a better place and be safer in your life.
Love from Australia,
Duy
Hi Anna, it appears that UNHCR has made us Pen Pals. I have relatives in the Lviv area and we were in Kyiv and Lviv before this terrible war started. We were intending to return and see more of Ukraine but Covid stopped that and then Russia attacked. At least now the weather is improving but here we are heading into winter.
Chat again,
Michael
Hello Anna,
As a young boy, I had to leave my country as a refugee with my family. I can well imagine some of the things you're going through.
I remember being little and my Mum working so hard to make sure my sister and I were ok. Just like you're doing with your children now.
You're doing everything you can. Make sure you look after yourself as well. I'm sure that things are difficult for all of you, but you're all safe, thanks to you.
I'll be praying for you.
Ramiro
Dear Anna,
What a brave, resilient and hopeful person you are! I can’t begin to imagine the horrors of war and finding a new life for you and your children. I truly hope this mad war ends soon - it must be awful to contemplate your son’s conscription.
Much love,
Mary.
Dear Anna,
I’m deeply touched by your story and everything you and your family have gone through.
I only have words of admiration, great compassion and a heartfelt desire that you continue to rebuild your life and to have a bright future.
I am a mum of 7 years old twins and I can understand when you say your kids are your greatest motivation.
From Australia I send you a very warm hug, my best vibes and prays.
Warmly,
Maria
Dear Anna
I’m nearly 90 years old and I live alone in a dear little house in a village called WILLUNGA in South Australia.
My 4 children are between ages 58 to 67. I have 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. A lovely family.
I was a school teacher mostly of children aged 5 years old to 8 years old and I loved my work.
Anna I am so happy you wanted to write….
Ukrainian people have been so close to our hearts, I, like many others have often prayed and thought of your people and country. We admire your courage and bravery living through such tragic occurrences day after day. I think often of your old people going through such heartbreak and pain and loss.
I do hope I’ll get to read your first letter and I would love to write to you again.
Loving greetings,
Margaret
I am sorry Anna that your country has been under attack.
You are a wonderful mother and I am happy you have a house of your own now. Good luck to you and your children for the future. I send my love.
Mim
Your story of Russian attacks on your home in Odessa touched me deeply, as I also have 4 children. I hope that I also would have the courage to flee and find safety for my family and myself!
Deborah
Dear Anna,
People of good will around the world care about you, your family, your journey and your work.
Our love and prayers are with you.

Dearest Anna,
I cannot even begin to imagine how difficult and life changing your exodus from Odesa has been, but you are truly an inspiration, not only for your fellow Ukrainians but for people all around the world.
Yours is a love story - the unconditional love for your beautiful children. I will definitely be thinking of you and your family as we all look forward to an end to this horrible conflict.
May you and yours go well.
David
Hello Anna
Your letter was heartbreaking and at the same time gave me hope in that your strength, determination and courage rose above the extremely difficult times you and your family encountered. Thank you for sharing your experience with us all.
Mary
Dear Anna,
I was a child in Europe during WW2 but we never had to leave our home and I just can't imagine how hard it must have been for you to make that brave decision to leave with your four young children just over 4 years ago.
I'm full of admiration for the way you've been able to make a new life for your family in Moldova and I pray that this unjust war will soon be over and that you will be able to return to peace and safety in Odesa.
Jane
Hello Anna, I would like to have you as a pen pal and we can exchange emails. I think of the Ukraine and her people and pray every night for help in any form. Your courage and tenacity to keep yourself and your family safe is magnificent. Keep safe and well.
Maggie from Canberra Australia 🇦🇺🙏🌹🌹
Hi Anna,
I pray your life only continues to be better and more peaceful. War is never the answer and I’m sorry you and your beautiful family had to endure so much hardship. Keep being strong and hopefully one day soon it will all be over and you can live free from fear.
Sending you all love ❤️
Manelle
Hope you are surviving ok.
Thinking of you and your family it must be very hard
Lisa
Hi Anna and family,
Sending you hope and encouragement all the way from Australia. From your letter you miss your home and have done everything you can for the safety of your children. You and your family are in our thoughts.
Kind wishes,
Susie
Hi Anna,
Thank you for your letter. I am delighted you landed on safe ground with your beautiful children. Thanks be to God. May you be blessed going forward. Wishing you every happiness,
Andrea
Hi Anna,
I am really touched by reading your story - having to bring up four children without a partner is a difficult task even in a normal situation, but having to flee your country with just the items that you can carry and start a life in another country is a remarkable achievement.
Daily, we see the media reports of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the daily missile and drone attacks on Ukraine cities and the frontline fighting in the Donbas. We feel so much empathy for the people of Ukraine, those who have been killed and injured, lost loved ones to the fighting, those who live in constant fear for their lives and people who have been displaced like yourself.
As a family supporter of UNHCR we are happy to see faces and read about the struggle of real people like yourself and your family, to know that our contributions are making a difference to the lives of people less fortunate than us.
We admire your resilience and determination to make a better life for yourself and give your children a more secure life with better future opportunities.
Our thoughts go out to you Anna.
Rob and Ruth.
I am so proud of your courage. I will continue to support UNHCR.
Elizabeth
Dear Anna
I can hardly imagine what you have experienced as a refugee, leaving your home and community to safe guard yourself and your children.
You are indeed a very brave woman. I have been happy to be able to share, in a small way.
I hope it provides a little bit of hope for you in your extraordinary circumstances.
Beverley
Dear Anna
Thank you for sharing your moving story - your strength, resilience, optimism and positivity are truly admirable.
I'm glad you and your children have found safety, but outside Ukraine which has unfairly suffered a brutal war.
From here in Australia, I wish you on-going safety and new opportunities.
Regards,
Chris
Dear Anna, thank you for sharing your story us.
It is so sad, so frightening, to hear of your experience at the start of the war - leaving your home so quickly must have been a terrible experience.
You have achieved so much in such difficult conditions - you make me realise I must do more! It is wonderful to see that your son has managed to graduate - your children all seem to have great strength making their new lives and finding new friends.
I wish that you had more support, and of course that one day soon you will be able to return to Odesa.
With love and good wishes,
Richard
Hi Anna,
Thanks for sharing some of your life’s journey thus far by letter.
Sincere condolences for the immense adversity you and your family you have experienced.
That is great to hear you and your family have found a safer and brighter future now.
I hope your recovery and future ahead is peaceful, happy and blessed.
Kind regards,
Shevonne
Dear Anna,
You've been through so much but at least you are physically out of the war. That must be a huge relief, although I imagine that you still have family in Ukraine and worry about them. I really feel for you having to start all over again. It seems though that you have done a fabulous job with a home of your own.
I am also a migrant, but like your daughter, I was too young to understand the hardship my parents went through when they came to Australia with nothing.
Congratulations on your achievements and I hope to hear how you and the family get on.
Best wishes.
Brigitte
Pryvit Anna,
Your letter really resonated with me, it would have been so hard to flee with your children from safety, your home, and your lives. You've made an incredible journey and I'm glad you are able to rebuild your lives in safety. I wonder how you keep your traditions alive with your younger kids? Especially with them growing up in a country far away from Ukraine.
Laura
Anna, we are with you.
Thank you for your lovely letter. Don't worry about us, we will support you. Do not feel obliged to write.
Lar
Dear Anna,
I cannot begin to imagine the strength and courage it has taken to get your children and yourself to safety and then build a new life in another country. My heart goes out to you, your children and your beloved homeland.
Carole
Hello Anna,
My name is Tiarna and I am the oldest child of 8 children ranging from 28 years old to 10 years old. I am so glad that I can help even just a small amount. I understand hard times as my mother was a single mother most of my life and having so many siblings I had to get a job early and learn to help with taking care of the children and household.
I will do my best to help for as long as I can to to ensure that you can provide the life your children deserve.
Much love,
Tiarna
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and insights of your family and yourself. I am thrilled to hear that you are doing well and keeping up with your positive energy.
I know how it feels to be in a refugee camp as I have a long history and experience with it. It is hard but you need to keep your head high and hopefully one day you will be able to get better life.
Bhakti
Dear Anna & family,
We are all sorry for the traumatic disruption to your family’s life all because of man’s ego mania. I worked in Libya for 3 years (1984-1987) during the US bombing and know the trauma that can create.
Have faith that peace will eventually be restored.🙏
John
Hi Anna, I'm hoping you and your family are safe and well in Moldova. Keep up your ultra-positive spirit, and I will do the same here in Australia, where many do not realise how fortunate they are.
I'm proud to support UNHCR for all these years -- the results of their hard work are immeasurable.
Be kind to yourself, you and your family have endured and are enduring a lot.
Much love, Kylie.
Dear Anna,
I hardly know how to respond to your letter.
Obviously, I have so much admiration for the way you have managed to get yourself and your children into an environment where it is still possible to make a life.
As my sister says, we raise our kids so that they can be the hope for the future.
I salute your courage and your tenacity.
Like you, I am hoping that the people who decide to wage these wars may soon realise that war is not a helpful way forward.
Sending you love and strength!
Clea
Hello Anna. Thank you for sharing your story. What a courageous woman and wonderful mother you are, moving so quickly to protect your beautiful, precious children. Enjoy your new home and stay safe.
My husband spent time in Ukraine with the UN helping to repair damage to Ukraine's electrical grid after Russian bombing. He loved being with the special Ukranians and being able to help. He was based in Kyiv but travelled to other places in Ukraine. Moving around the country was very dangerous. He was a specialist electrical grid engineer. Unfortunately he recently passed away.
Rgds. Ginni
You are a wonderful and caring mother. I want to let you know how much good people like you are deep within my thoughts.
Mary
Hullo Anna,
Life has certainly presented you and your lovely family with many challenges. War and civil unrest are terrible. You are all remembered in my thoughts and prayers.
Paula
Dear Anna,
I thank God that He led you to safety and freedom, and gave you wisdom and courage to begin a new life.
I pray that God will continue to bless you all with good health and good friends, and protect you all whenever you go. Your name means ‘God’s grace’. May you always know His love and grace.
Claire
Hi Anna,
May god protect and look after you and your family. From Melbourne Australia.

Dear Anna,
I am so pleased you and your family have been able to create a new life together. I pray that the safety and new lives you now have will continue to be what you all need.
With love, Meg
Thank you so much for sharing a little of your difficult journey with us Anna. Your courage and determination to keep going for your children shines through. I hope it helps that other people are thinking of you and supporting you any way they can.
Diane
Anna,
In Australia, we have an expression about overcoming challenges and it is: "Keep fighting the good fight".
Your letter and your life speaks volumes about your fight. We are with you in spirit and, when you make it to Australia, in person.
All the best. Dominic
Hi Anna, thanks for your Letter. I live in Brisbane, Australia. I'm 52 years old and have fortunately never had to experience war in any way, but there has always been wars happening somewhere in the world my whole life so I hear about it and see it on the news every day. Things seem particularly bad at the moment and I hope they don't get any worse. Anyway I hope you are having a good day.
Lawrence
Hello Anna,
I follow all the events in Ukraine. You and your children have been directly impacted by the war. I truly wish Ukraine will achieve the objectives.
I hope that your life finds peace and that one day you may be able to return to Odesa if you wish so.
All the best Anna.
Pieter
Dear Anna,
I am so glad you have found a safe place and now have your own home.
I was a migrant to this country many years ago. It was difficult missing our family and friends but gave us opportunities that we probably would not have had in our homeland. We lived in places that were not very good but my mother managed to make them into homes where we found many happy times and met many new friends in similar situations.
Do you have much time for any hobbies now?
May God bless you and your family in your new country and grant that one day you will be able to see your mother and friends again.
Christine
Hi Anna,
Thank you for your letter, you are brave and I totally understand that your children would be your first and most important concern. However you still have family at home in Ukraine, this must worry you.
I live in Australia, a very big country a long way from you, but we do often hear news regarding the terrible unending war in Ukraine. Animals are not as important as humans but they do matter, I have 2 cats and volunteer at various animal rescue organisations including one for cats and dogs and another for wildlife, this includes our very special Koalas, later if I am able I will send you some pictures, I think your children would like them.
Kind regards
Heather
Anna, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your beautiful family. My name is Paula and I live in Brisbane, in the state of Queensland and the country of Australia.
I wish you all the best for the future.
Paula

Love first love always.

Hello Anna - thank you for taking the time to tell us about you and your life, now in Moldova.
Like many refugees I have known over my life, you and your children are amazingly strong, courageous and resilient.
I congratulate you all on everything you have managed to achieve since war came to your life in Ukraine. I am very glad you now live in peace, although not in your original home country. I hope the war will end soon; no-one deserves to suffer war.
All the best for your future.
Lauren
Dear Anna,
I can’t imagine what you have gone through. My prayers are with you. May peace come soon.
Love Chairani
Hi Anna,
I cant imagine what you are going through. Your strength and resilience humbles and moves me. I know words are empty but know you are not forgotten.
You are precious and I'm praying for you and your family.
Warmly, Mohana
Hi Anna
My name is Sonia and I live in tropical North Queensland in Australia. Dear Anna
It is impossible for me to fully comprehend the accumulation of loss in your life. Every night on TV we witness the destruction of Ukraine and its people. We are with you in solidarity. I live in Melbourne, Australia which is far from you and your family. I am a poet and would like to share with you a poem I wrote in 2022.
Day's Ending (Ukraine 2022)
Framed with the window
an evening cloud
tinged with day's ending
offering sanctuary
for the passing moment.
A tree silhouetted
in the fading light
harnessed a gentle wind.
A twilight bird
rests on a low bow
as if praying.
The silence at hand
strokes a know sadness.
A tearless cry in a faraway land
where children
can no longer see the moon's face
obliterated by shards of hate.
Memory seeks to find its soul
nothing can be held
until children
once again
dance under the moon
Judith
Hi Anna,
I feel for you and your difficult journey to keep your family safe. You’re a brave woman in very difficult circumstances, I totally admire your strength.
Stay strong, sending my love.
Judi
Dear Anna,
Thank you for sharing your letter, I was very moved reading about the journey you have been on with your children since the war began. What enormous courage it must have taken to uproot your lives from your home, family and friends, to find safety for yourself and your children.
I'm so pleased to hear that your children are doing well and that you are all safe, but I can imagine how homesick you must feel at times, as well as the ongoing stress and worry with the ongoing war. It sounds like you are working to make life as normal and happy as possible for yourself and your children. I hope that you have found good support in your new situation and that you and your family can find joyful moments in your new life.
I am sending you every strength and good wishes that this war may end soon.
Warmest regards,
Anita
Anna you are a wonderful Mother. Your children are blessed to have you. Best wishes to you and your family. I think you are so brave to have packed up and headed out of the war zone. Thank you for sharing your experience and your wonderful successes amidst the challenges you face. God bless you Anna. Love to you and yours

Hello Anna,
I support UNHCR with a small donation each month.
I come from Australia and don’t have any children of my own, i cannot imagine how it would be like losing a home or being forced to flee my country. I hope all is going well and there is light at the end of the tunnel. Thinking of you and your family and prayers for an end to the war in Ukraine.
Daniel
Thank you for sharing. My heart ❤️ goes out to you.
Love and prayers
Marian
G’Day from Australia Anna.
It was great to read about your experience and you and your children grew, adapted and survived. I’m so glad the small amount I’m able to give has helped you out.
I wish you and your children the very best for the future and know there are many people in the world who can’t give but are definitely thinking of the war and the refugees like you.
Take care, all the best.
Richard
Hello Anna,

Dear Anna
I am so sorry to hear your devastating story of how you were forced to flee your home but so happy to know that you have been able to find refuge and start something of a new life. You are so strong.
Here in Australia there are many like myself who project their thoughts of love and hope and positive energy out into the world.
You are important, you are seen, you are loved and supported from thousands of miles away by good people all over the world.
I send you love and support and energy to you and your family and hope you stay safe and strong. Know that there are millions like me all over the world sending these wishes out to all the people like you who are suffering, through our spirit.
Peace love and happiness
Peter
Dear Anna,
I know that at the moment you feel alone in your plight, but there are millions of people and many governments around the world who are trying very hard to bring peace to Ukraine.
Please tell your children that they are being prayed for daily.
Alexandra
Dear Anna,
As I read your letter thru it all there was a story of a Mother who was brave loving and a wonderful ability to make decisions in the wake of a terrible war going on around you.
Each night I pray to God for all those affected by war and now I can pray for and mention Anna by name.
I send all my love to you and your family.
Cliff🙏
Anna,
How brave you are, with such lovely children. I hope all goes well in your new life.
Carol
Your story is inspirational how hard to have to make a new life for yourself and your children, I hope the future gets easier for you all.
Hilary
Hi, thank you for your inspirational letter. It really touched my heart.
I know that war is an event that no one should have to experience. I am happy that you found a safer place, for you and your family.
Please keep in contact with me, and let me know how you are getting along,
Yours sincerely
Roger
Hi Anna, the struggles you and your family are facing, are far more daunting than we in Australia encounter. Your efforts to support your young family are inspirational!
Ian
Hi Anna,
Your story is extremely inspiring, you were very courageous and brave to pack your bags and move to a completely new place and start your life over from scratch. I truly hope that your kids have adapted to their new life and that it’s everything you hoped for it to be.
I hope you and your family continue to be strong. Your kids most definitely look up to you as strong and brave!
Lots of Love
Shawn, Annuelene, Georgia & Janae
Dear Anna,
I am a mother too. What you have been through is unconscionable. I am so sorry the world is like this.
I wish you safety, hope and happiness. You are in my thoughts. Keep being brave and strong.
With my love to you and your family.
Lisa
Very brave of you to move away from terror. I hope you and your children feel safe living in Moldova and you all flourish.
Lesley
Like so many Ukrainians you have been through so much. It is too sad for words. You have taken your children to a place of safety and started a new life, caring for your children as you did all that was needed. You are wonderful.
I send love to you, Oleg, Olena, Bogdan and Artem and I also hope that the war will end tomorrow.
Kerry
Dear Anna,
The media reports and photos can never fully convey the horror of what you, your family and people have suffered and continue to suffer.
We are thankful that you have found refuge in Moldova and pray it remains secure and life-giving for you and your children until it is safe to return home.
Be assured of our thoughts and prayers.
Bruce and Rhyl.
Dear Anna
I have four children- mostly grown. I personally cannot imagine the horrors that you have experienced.
Believe me when I tell you that you and your fellow countrymen are in my thoughts everyday. Being on the other side of the world does not mean that our prayers cannot be heard. Stay strong, most of the world is in solidarity with you.
Merran
Hi Anna, you have had a difficult time but I hope you and your children feel safe now. We have many people in Toowoomba from war torn countries including Sudan, Iraq and Iran and many others.
Best wishes from Queensland Australia.
Sheila
Anna,
You and your children have achieved so much in this situation.
Very best wishes for your future lives.
Carolyn
Hi Anna,
Stay strong in these moments, us Ukrainians have gone through many hardships over the years and it’s our “keep on going no matter what” mentality that pushes us through.
My mother’s side is from Donetsk so I understand how difficult it’s been.
Keep pushing and kind regards,
Will
Thankyou Anna, you have had quite a life of turmoil lately. We mention you in our prayers to God. We hope it will all work out for good, Anna.
Regards
Len
Hi Anna,
Your story is truly inspiring. I can only begin to imagine what you’ve been through, but I’m so glad you found a way through such difficult times and have been able to give your children a safe and loving childhood. So often, they become our strength when everything else feels uncertain. It’s wonderful to hear they are growing up happy—you should be very proud of that.
What also stands out to me is how, despite everything, you continue to care for others and try to help. It’s a powerful reminder that humanity doesn’t disappear in hard times—it often shines the brightest there. The compassion you show is something the world really needs more of.
I truly hope the war ends soon and that you can be reunited with your family.
Pablo (from Australia)
Anna, you are not alone.
I live in a small village in Australia called Austinmer. It is on the coast just over an hour from Sydney. My ancestors were refugees from Białystok who ended up in England. I wish you a peaceful and joyous day.
Helen
