Thank you for writing and sharing your experiences with us so generously. We were very moved by your story of survival and courage.

Your words painted a stark portrait of the impact of the war and the split-second decisions parents must make to protect their children. We have nothing but admiration for your bravery, resilience and determination, and are so relieved you’ve found safety in Moldova. We hope your new house is starting to feel like home and that your work gives you purpose and joy. It sounds like your children have adapted very well, despite all the challenges.

Perhaps you are interested to know a little about us? We come from all over Australia and we have many different backgrounds. We are parents, grandparents, teachers, electricians, writers and musicians. Some of us live in large cities, others in small towns. Some of us have been refugees ourselves and know all too well what your family is going through.

Regardless of our individual backgrounds, we are united by our support for you. We want you to know that you’re doing a wonderful job caring for your children and your community in Moldova. We hope you are also taking time to care for yourself.

Anna, if you have time to write again, we would love to know more about your grandmother and other family members living in Ukraine. How often are you able to visit? What is daily life like in Ukraine now? We would also like to know how you keep your Ukrainian traditions alive for your children, and if you have any hobbies that help you relax? Also, we wonder if the cats are new to your family, or if they fled Ukraine with you?

Please let Oleg, Bogdan, Artem and Olena know we are thinking of them, and wish them nothing but the best. We especially hope that Oleg finds a safe pathway for his future.

Anna, you have our full support. We stand with you, we will continue supporting the people of Ukraine, and we too hope for a swift end to the war. You are not alone.
